French Onion Soup Recipe

French Onion Soup is amazingly cheap and easy to make and can make an impressive starter for a dinner party.

Ingredients

2 oz of Butter and 2 table spoons of oil.

3 - 4 Large Onions roughly chopped

1 1/2 pints of water

3 - 5 Oxo Cubes

1 teaspoon of Brown suger.

Crusty Bread

Guyere cheese (Optional)

Cooking methode

Then end result of the French Onion Soup will depend on cooking the onions properly.

Using a large pot melt the butter and add the oil, add chopped onions and fry untill soft.

Add brown suger and continue frying (mixing often) the oinions untill they start to caramilise, this usually takes around 15 - 20 minutes, the Onions will turn a golden brown colour.

Add water, bring to the boil and then add Oxo Cubes to taste.

Really important, simmer for at least 15 minutes.

While soup is simmering cut the crusty bread into slices and top with Guyere Cheese

Once soup is ready, transfer into large soup bowls and float the bread topped with cheese in the soup and put under a hot grill to melt the cheese.

Be carefull as the bowls will be very hot and make sure you warn your quests!
